Fabric of Our Lives was a bold creative experiment that invited 12 exceptional artists to respond to 300kgs of interior textile waste sourced from leading designer brands.

Conceived by ReFAB Studio in collaboration with The Creative Club, the project went beyond an artistic showcase. It reflected on our culture of excess  the relentless cycles of production, consumption, and disposal and brought to life ReFAB Studio’s belief in “finding meaning and delight in the age of waste.”

Beginning with unused interior textiles that would otherwise have ended in landfill or incineration, the artists deconstructed and reconstructed fabric into powerful, unconventional artworks. Threads, textures, colours and embellishments became metaphors for connection, identity, and the fractures within society. While textiles remained central to each piece, many works incorporated other media, opening new material narratives and perspectives.

The project culminated in an exhibition held in Pune from 3rd–8th February at the Raja Ravi Varma Gallery. The exhibition brought together artists, designers, and audiences to reflect on what truly constitutes the fabric of our lives todayImportantly, 30% of all artwork sales supported The Kartik Foundation, the parent charity of ReFAB Studio, helping empower disadvantaged women tailors through upcycling and upskilling initiatives
