How We Work

At ReFAB, we prioritise the planet over profits and carefully consider every part of our process – from the fabrics we use to the people we work with. When you shop with us, you become part of a movement that’s supporting real, positive change, in local communities and beyond.

Did you know that ReFAB is a social enterprise within a charity? When we say we prioritise the planet over profits, we really do mean it. Each sale is reinvested back into the work that we do, with the hope that we’ll be able to increase our impact even more.

Our impact spans social, economic, and environmental metrics, which means we are helping build genuinely sustainable communities.

  • Upcycling Designer Fabrics

To us, waste isn’t waste until we waste it. It’s why we only use fabrics that would be otherwise destined for landfill. They’re kindly donated to us by luxury merchants, so not only are we saving them from a short life cycle, but you know that your purchase is made from the very best materials too. Oh, and choosing to upcycle doesn’t just reduce waste, but water usage and carbon emissions too.

We’ve even got the facts and figures to show just how far we’ve come – since 2020, we’ve turned 500kgs of fabric into 700+ products!

  • Empowered Artisans

We partner with reputable organisations that give disadvantaged, female communities skills in tailoring. We build a personal relationship with them too, and equip them with the additional skills they need to work with our high-end products.

Since we embarked on our mission, we’ve upskilled 36 women in partnership with organisations such as the Network of International Women for Brighton and Hove (NIWBH) in Brighton, as well as Mann Deshi and Women’s India Trust (WIT) in India.

Bespoke, One-of-a-Kind Collections

One of our favourite parts of the process is diving into the treasure trove of fabrics we receive, to see what wonderful things we can turn them into! Because our products are crafted from recycled fabrics, everything at ReFAB is made in small batches. Sometimes we only get enough fabric to make one super-special design, which means you’re often buying something truly one-of-a-kind.

Zero-Waste Policy

At ReFAB, we’re committed to our zero-waste approach. Each of our designs is carefully developed to minimise waste. Nothing is thrown away, not even when we go through our sampling and design process. Any samples created during trials are shared among our loved ones.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

Your orders will always arrive at your door in eco-friendly packaging. For our smaller items, we use 100% compostable bags that can be composted with your food waste. Larger orders are shipped to you using recycled and recyclable packaging.

Our Future

We’re a social enterprise with a big heart and even bigger ambitions. We believe it’s our (and every brand’s) responsibility to treat our planet with kindness. It’s why we won’t rest until we have achieved our planet-saving mission.

We dream that one day, you’ll be able to send any loved-out pieces back to us so we can transform them into something new. If something needs repairing, our female artisans could take care of that for you too. We are not quite there yet, but give us time and we will be.

As we grow, we promise to always remain transparent about our processes, costing, and sustainability metrics. That way, you will always know exactly who is making your products, where the fabric has come from, and the positive impact your purchase is having on our planet.
